Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

Click the button on the website and leave a message or you can call or email me to set up a time to discuss your situation. This will help both of us to determine if we are a good fit to work together. If so, we can schedule our first regular session. There is some initial paperwork to be filled out and discussed at our first session.

How often do we speak?

Most individual counseling sessions are weekly at the beginning. Ideally, we mutually decide that the goals are being achieved and we will start to taper the sessions to every 2-3 weeks before terminating.

Couples counseling and family counseling is more varied. Depending on the goals and progress, scheduled sessions can range from 1-2 times/week to 1-2 times/month. As goals are achieved, sessions taper out as well.

How much does it cost?

Most individual therapy sessions are 60 min and cost $100/session. Couples and family sessions are based on a rate of $140/hr and are usually 90 minutes, which is $210/session. If longer or shorter sessions are deemed appropriate, the costs will be prorated accordingly.

Because I do not take insurance, I try to keep my fees reasonable. Some clients opt to come every other week to reduce costs, and some utilize their Health Savings Accounts to pay for sessions. Currently, New York State laws do not ensure that insurance companies have to reimburse for sessions with licensed marriage and family therapists. For clients in California, you can submit the session receipt (“superbill”) for reimbursement if your insurance plan allows you to utilize out-of-network providers.

How can I pay?

Payment is expected at the time of service by cash, check or credit card. With credit cards or Health Savings Accounts, there is a 5% additional transaction fee.

Where are you located?

My office is located at 775 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14222. There is a hair salon in the front of the building and my office space is in the back - both are on the first floor. Enter through the front door and follow the signs along the hallway to the back where you will find my waiting room

Auburn and Breckenridge are two side streets which offer free parking. Also, there are metered spots directly in front of the building on Elmwood Ave. There is a new parking app called "Buffalo Roam" which allows for easy parking payment throughout city streets.

Virtual sessions (“telemedicine”) are available for residents of New York State and California. Please contact me directly about your needs and your situation to determine if telemedicine is appropriate for you.

What if I need to cancel?

I require 24 hours notice of cancelled sessions. Otherwise, you will be expected to pay 50% of the cost of the session.

And finally...You look young - how do you know anything?

People often comment on how much younger I look than my actual age. I have been working in the field since 2005 and graduated from my Master’s program in 2006. I have worked at clinics, treatments centers, halfway houses, a crisis line, and in private practice.
