Individual counseling is one of the best catalysts for change. Helping people gain insight and understanding, and supporting them to make positive changes, are the foundations of my practice.
Despite my license as a “marriage and family therapist,” I also see individual clients. My license and training guides me to place a heavy emphasis on understanding a client’s current and past environments, whether they are romantic/family/work/friend-related, and how they impact his or her current situation. Problems like depression, anxiety, work issues, relationship issues, money issues, addictions, food issues/eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors and more can often be understood more clearly by exploring a client’s environment.
My style incorporates aspects of family systems theory, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I often suggest different books, websites, videos, or other types of homework to reinforce ideas discussed in sessions.
I work with my clients to help them have more confidence, as well as learn how to utilize assertive communication, and learn and practice positive coping skills. I want my clients to have the best chance to make positive changes quickly and be able to see the changes directly in their lives.
